Jim Corbett Jhirna Safari Zone

Jhirna zone is one of the popular zones among the six ecotourism zones in Corbett National Park. Corbett National Park is divided into six tourist zones to which the Jhirna zone was added much later in 1994. To expand the Tiger Reserve zone, the agricultural lands of Jhirna village and two other villages were included in the reserve area. the villages were moved to some other place nearby. And then the land was rebuilt and turned into an exotic lush forest. Being open for wildlife safaris throughout the year, unlike other zones that are closed during the monsoon season (except the Dhela zone), the Jhirna zone witnesses a lot of action throughout the year.

Located on the southern edge of the Corbett Reserve Park, the Jhirna Tourist Zone offers exclusive tiger and sloth sightings along with spectacular views of a landscape that is quite rich in wildlife. The topography of the Jhirna zone is primarily dry deciduous type and consists of a large grassland (Chaur) known as Laldhang Chaur. This big Chaur is a favorite place for herbivores of this zone like deer, chitals, nilgai and elephants. The numerous watercourses in this zone nourish the wildlife of the zone and give the zone a natural atmosphere. The zone is also considered an excellent place for bird watching.

To reach the Jhirna zone, you need to get a safari permit from the forest officials and you also need to hire a safari vehicle and a naturist/guide. The entrance gate of Jhirna zone is Dhela gate which is about 15 km from Ramnagar, the nearest town which is also a railway station and bus stand from the zone. Safari for Jhirna zone is organized throughout the year and two shifts per day with a maximum of 30 jeeps per shift. A maximum of 6 adults and 2 children (up to 12 years old) are allowed in the Jeep. You can book your permit, Jeep safari, Jhirna Safari guide along with accommodation near the zone on our website.

Note: During the monsoon season, from July to September, advance booking of safaris is not allowed in the Jhirna zone as the safari may be canceled for the day if there is heavy rain or bad weather, so for convenience the day allows. safaris are issued on a current basis from the counter.

Jhirna Zone Forest Rest House : Jhirna Zone offers overnight stay for wildlife lovers at its forest rest house located inside the zone. Jhirna FRH has a large compound where even day safari goers can stay for a while and freshen up before heading back east.
