Flora & Fauna In Jim Corbett
Jim Corbett National Park is known for its natural bounty and wildlife splendor. The park covers more than 520 square kilometers. The variety on offer at Corbett Park’s Flower Count is astounding. There are about 110 species of trees, 51 species of shrubs, 27 species of creepers and 33 species of bamboo and grass. The most prominent trees in Corbett are Sal Shorea Robusta which is found in more than 75% of the main area.
Main flora in Jim Corbett National Park
Sheesam, Dhak, Sisoo and Khair are the most prominent trees found in Corbett. There are many other varieties around the park that add to the diversity of species. The only conifer found in the park is the Chir pine and it is seen on top of ridges like Chir Choti and descends in Gajar Sot. Banj Oak, a typical Himalayan species, grows in the higher elevations near Kandy. Kanju (Holoptelia Integrifolia), Jamun (Syzygium Cumini) and Aamla (Emblica Officinalis) grow in large areas.

There are also species of flowering trees. Flowering trees complement the hue of the Corbett forests. Among the most prominent are Kachnaar (Bauhinia Variegata) with pink to white flowers, Semal (Bombax Ceiba) with large red flowers, Dhak or Flame of the Forest (Butea Monosperma) with bright orange flowers, Madaar or Indian Coral (Erythrinia Indica ) with scarlet red flowers and Amaltas (Cassia Fistula) with bright yellow chandelier like flowers.

Bamboo:
Several parts of Corbett vegetation are occupied by bamboo forest. The main type of bamboo found is male bamboo with clustered thick stems and flashy papery stem sheaths. Bamboos have a distinctive flowering habit. All forest bamboos flower together once in a long time, after several decades. After flowering, fruiting and seed dispersal, all plants decay simultaneously.

Bengal Tiger, Leopard, Jungle Cat, Asiatic Elephant, Pig, Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, Chital Deer, Sambar Deer, Wild Boar, Black Haired Monkey, Rheus Monkey, Wild Boar and Jackal etc.
