Bijrani Safari Zone
Best known as a tiger reserve, Corbett National Park needs no introduction to wildlife lovers. The park boasts of an increasing number of tigers in recent years and also offers Jungle Safari to tourists to get a glimpse of this majestic king of the wild forest in its natural habitat. A safari is a wonderful and only way to get into the tiger reserve area and enjoy the mesmerizing view of the amazing landscape and wildlife of the area. The park is divided into six ecotourism zones and safari trips are organized in each zone by the forest management.
Among the six safari zones, Bijrani zone is considered to be the best zone after Dhikala zone for tiger sighting. The picturesque landscape of this zone consisting of large grassy fields known as Chaurs and dense Sal forest, plenty of waterholes and river streams is no less charming than the Dhikala zone. The chances of tiger sightings in this zone are almost similar to the Dhikala zone and tiger sightings are often reported by safari tourists. Along with big cats like Bengal tigers and leopards, several species of other animals like wild elephants, black bears and also different species of deer and antelopes namely Chital, Sambar, Pig are found in this zone. It is also an ideal place for bird watching, with about 600 species of resident and migratory birds living here.
Aamdanda Gate is the entrance to Bijrani zone which is located at a distance of about 1 km from Ramnagar city. After entering the gate, there is a 5km buffer zone that you must cross to get to the core zone. There are two forest rest stops in this zone that are available for tourists to stay here after making an overnight reservation. One is Bijrani Forest Rest and the other is Malani Forest Rest. Day safaris are not allowed to stay overnight here, but you can enjoy elephant rides from here on day safaris. Elephant safari is available only in Bijrani and Dhikala zones and subject to availability as limited number of elephants are used for the safari. The elephant safari must be booked locally and is booked on a first-come, first-served basis.
